Welcome

I’m Sarah Jane

I am childless, not by choice. I have experienced infertility, multiple pregnancy losses, chronic medical conditions, and a hysterectomy.

Being childless is an important part of my identity, but there is so much more. I am a great friend, a writer, a Yoga student + teacher, a kayaker, a health and life coach, a gardener, a grief tender, a daughter, a hiker, a life-long learner, an avid reader, a widow, a workshop + retreat facilitator, a childless stepmother, a falafel maker, a community member, a compassionate listener and a dog lover.

A little more about me

Why I do This Work

This work is part of my legacy as a childless woman. I am passionate about supporting fellow childless women and offering the transformative support I wish I had. There weren’t enough resources and opportunities to connect with others when I was in the depths of childless grief. I want to change that and be a way-shower for those on this path. I know there are many ways to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. I will help you find the path to yours.

My Vision for you

I see you with strong healthy boundaries, a tool box of self-care practices and a vital sense of belonging. I see you fully capable of forming a relationship with your grief, building your confidence and stepping into the possibility of life. I see you open to exploring who you want be and how you want show up for yourself, your family and community. I see you reclaiming your life.

Who have I studied with?

Yoga + Meditation

In 2009, I lived at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga and studied the Classical Ashtanga teachings of Baba Hari Dass. This included karma yoga, asana, yoga philosophy, meditation, pranayama and kirtan. Since then, I have completed over 1000 hours of training with the inspirational faculty of Modo yoga - Ted Grand, Jessica Robertson, Frank Jude Boccio and Ray Long to name a few - and am certified to teach Modo levels 1 & 2 plus Modo Flow. I have also studied Yin Yoga with Joe Barnett, Yoga Philosophy and Advanced Vinyasa with Natalie Rousseau, and Trauma-Informed Yoga with Yoga Outreach.

Self-Compassion

I have studied Mindful Self-Compassion with Heather Shaughnessy-Cato and Emily Whyte Rubin of Self-Compassion in Action.

Writing

Since 2019, I have led Yoga and writing workshops and classes based on the work of Ahava Shira, Wendy Judith Cutler and Lynda Monk.

Coaching

I am a Health and Life Coach through the Health Coach Institute and have been honoured to support amazing women in opening up to possibility and reclaiming their lives since 2020.

Grief Tending

I have studied grief tending + ritual facilitation with Francis Weller by participating in his Apprenticeship With Sorrow Program and Grief Ritual Facilitator Training. I have been trained in Trauma-Informed Grief Support by Shauna Janz, who is currently my advisor and mentor.

Practical Experience

I have over 4500 hours of experience leading classes, courses, coaching sessions, and retreats in person and online. I am on the admin team of the popular Facebook group, Childless By Circumstance, Not By Choice, and co-host monthly peer support meet-ups for childless stepmothers on the Childless Collective online community.
